Many local families have been affected financially during the coronavirus crisis. For some, this can bring difficult choices, such as having to choose between paying for food or keeping the utilities on. Community and donation-funded programs, such as Operation Warm, are available to help.
Operation Warm is administered by Community Action Partnership of North Alabama, and all monies donated go directly to those in need. If you would like to help support Operation Warm with either a one-time or monthly donation added to your utility bill, please call HU Customer Service at (256) 773-3340.
In addition to Operation Warm, many local churches have created benevolent funds to help families in need. “Money donated to these funds stays in our community,” HU Customer Service Manager Terri Harris explains. “Often, churches know the needs of their members and can respond to a situation more quickly than outside organizations.”
If you or a loved one is having difficulty paying your utility bill, please call HU at (256) 773-3340. Harris says she has compiled a list of resources for customers impacted by the current crisis. “We recognize that there is a lot of anxiety right now,” she says. “We always try to provide direction and encourage customers who are experiencing hardship to call us as soon as possible. Don’t wait until your bill is late.”
