Finance & Accounting Manager

This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Finance & Accounting Department, and organizes and manages Hartselle Utilities finances and accounts.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
• Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting.
• Earned credential as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
• Possess a minimum of ten (10) years of professional accounting experience; a minimum of three (3) years of professional work experience in management and supervision.
• Professional work experience dealing with budget management.
• Professional work experience with, or in, a public utility organization is preferred.
• Possess practical work experience associated with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) guidelines for professional electric services is preferred.
• Possess a current and valid driver’s license; must be insurable.
• Ability to be bonded.
• Ability to work extended or unusual hours.
• Ability to travel to participate in training and continuing education (CE) programs, with a focus in utility management and accounting.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and random drug screenings.

Wastewater Operator

This position performs all testing,  operational and maintenance duties required to ensure the effective and efficient operation of Hartselle Utilities Grade III wastewater treatment plant (WWTP).

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
• Possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Possess a current and valid State of Alabama Grade III (or higher) Wastewater Plant Operator certification.
• Possess a current and valid driver’s license; must be insurable.
• Completion of CPR/First Aid training acceptable to HU.
• Ability to work non-standard hours and participate in the HU on-call rotation schedule.
• Ability to travel to attend training classes or programs.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and random drug screenings.

Laborer

This position performs manual labor in our Field Operations work crews and learns to perform semi-skilled work in the maintenance, operation, repair and construction of Hartselle Utilities’ water, sewer, and natural gas distribution and collection systems.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
• Possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Prior work experience in an industrial/mechanical setting, operating, or working alongside backhoe, loader, forklift or related material handling equipment experience is preferred.
• Possess a current and valid Class A CDL or ability to obtain within ninety (90) days of hire; and be insurable.
• Must reside within a ten (10) mile radius of HU’s warehouse facility located at 800 Sparkman Street NW, Hartselle, AL.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Natural Gas Operator Qualification Training (OQT) as established by the APSC with 180 days of employment.
• Ability to successfully complete Operator Qualification Training (OQT) modules and associated field evaluations applicable to this position.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Alabama Grade I Water Distribution System certification and Grade I(C) Public Wastewater Collection Systems certification within five (5) years of employment.
• Completion of CPR/First Aid training acceptable to HU.
• Ability to travel as needed for work and training.
• Ability to work non-standard hours and participate in HU on-call rotation schedule.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and random drug screenings.

Apprentice Lineman

This position performs work as an apprentice-in-training for the position of lineman to develop specialized skills necessary for the construction, operation and maintenance of overhead and underground power distribution and sub-transmission systems.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
• Possess a high school diploma or GED and have satisfactorily completed a minimum of one year of high school algebra and/or one semester of college algebra; courses in basic electricity are preferred.
• One (1) year of work experience in the construction field is preferred.
• Ability to satisfactorily complete a pre-apprentice climbing school selected approved by HU.
• Ability to satisfactorily complete an apprentice lineman school approved by HU and any other job-related classroom or laboratory training.
• Completion of CPR/First Aid training acceptable to HU.
• Possess a current and valid class A CDL or ability to obtain within ninety (90) days of hire and be insurable.
• Must reside within a ten (10) mile radius of HU’s electric pole yard located on Railroad Street.
• Ability to travel as needed for work and training.
• Ability to work non-standard hours and participate in HU on-call rotation schedule.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and random drug screenings.
